Steam Boiler Repairs at Tegel Foods

Recently at routine checks with Tegel Foods, Nu-Way Energy’s Christchurch Branch completed major repairs on one of their steam boilers.
After a thorough inspection on their fourth steam boiler, we found that there were large amounts of corrosion at the rear of the boiler coming from the inside to the out. We removed the cladding to inspect further and discovered there was cracking in the rings and into welds on the boiler shell. The Nu-Way team then removed parts and brought in boiler inspectors, welding contractors and NDT inspector who determined the chamber was unrepairable and had to be repaired. We removed the entire chamber, cleaned off the welds and continued our inspections to ensure it was structurally sound.
Once cleared, we were able to fit the new chamber and weld it in place and then carry out pressure tests to 200psi. After fitting the legs, casting the new refactory, fit the steam pipe, blow down the line, water feed, and fit the boiler door on. We were then ready to start heating the boiler to cure the refractory as instructed.
